In 2007, my father was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer, and I’ll never forget the moment when the doctor told us, “We will try to manage it; he probably has one to three years.” Just like that, our lives were changed forever.
The world continued moving around us, and we’d try to continue with our “normal” routines, functioning as if all was well. But for my father, it was a race—a race to spend as much time with us as he could, to forget what the future had in store, and to just live.
My father fought with all he had, but finally lost his battle on December 4th, 2010. His strength and dignity in the face of an overwhelming challenge inspired me. In life he was a charitable leader in his community, dedicated to helping others, and now I follow in his footsteps. In 2013, the Team Hope World Foundation was born. The major focus was on cancer patients and their families.
